Deanna Dee Herrin (Mumma)

January 31, 1939 - March 16, 2022

Deanna Dee Herrin (Mumma), 82, passed away March 16, 2022 at Kelly House South in Meriden, Kansas. She was born January 31, 1939, in Norton, Kansas to Olen Dee and Juanita Foland Mumma. She was the third of seven children.

After her father returned home (WWII), the family moved from Norton County to Topeka. Deanna graduated from Highland Park High School in 1957. After graduation, she worked at businesses including Hallmark, Frito Lay and Montgomery Wards.

In June 1970, Deanna married Gary W. Herrin who was stationed at Forbes AIr Force Base (AFB).  She then enjoyed life as a military spouse, stationed with her husband and growing family at Yokota AFB in Japan; Fairchild AFB in Washington; Lackland AFB in Texas; Tinker AFB in Oklahoma, and Keesler AFB in Mississippi.  During this time, she volunteered, worked retail (Base Exchanges) and poured her heart into beautifying her yard, winning yard of the month multiple times.

When Gary retired in 1995, she and Gary moved to San Antonio, Texas.  In 2006, after Gary’s death, she returned to Topeka.  She loved to sew, craft, garden and complete DIY projects around the house.

Deanna was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters, Beverly Badger and Carla Epling. 

Survivors include her children, David E. Anderson, Melissa Herrin, Wendy Henderson and Angela Moore; and four siblings, Don Mumma (Joanne), Joel Mumma (Jodi), Kay Brooks and Sue Liljenberg (Gary). She is also survived by six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A private celebration of Deanna’s life was held by her family. Her ashes will be sent to Cedar Creek, Arkansas, where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
