Marjorie L. Hersh

Marjorie L. (Marge) Hersh 94 of Topeka, KS, passed away on October 25, 2019, at Midland Care Hospice House in Topeka, KS. She was born in Delia, KS, on November 25, 1924, the daughter of Clarence T and Anna L Reilly Gideon.
While living in Topeka, Marge attended Boswell Junior High, Topeka High School, Washburn University. She worked as a draftsman for both Bell Telephone and Kansas Power and Light.  
 
She married George M. Hersh on December 2, 1955. In 1958 they purchased their dream home in the Potwin neighborhood of Topeka for their growing family of four children. Marge loved the Potwin social events and entertaining in their home and developing lifelong friendships. She cherished spending time with her ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Marge remained in the Potwin home until a month before her death and celebrated 60 years of living in a home and neighborhood she treasured.
 
Along with supporting her husband’s various business interests in Topeka, Marge was an avid volunteer for many local organizations. She donated her time, money, and energy to Stormont Vails Hospital Auxiliary, Topeka Roundup Club Roundettes, and served as the club’s president, ERC Designers Showhouse, Makeup for the Topeka Bar Associations Bar Shows, Topeka High School Historical Society. She also served as a Board Member for the Salvation Army, and Postal Savings and Loan Association for many years. Marge and George, along with fellow neighbors from Potwin, donated the Potwin Drug Store Fixtures that now reside at Topeka’s
Ward Meade Park.
 
She was proceeded in death by her husband of 58 years George M Hersh, Sr., her parents Clarence T and Anna L Gideon, her Brothers Cline B. (Evelyn), Clarence J. (Jane) and Clifton D Gideon, Sisters Helen F Sheetz (Lloyd) and Doris Josephine (Jo) (Howard) Warnken. Sister-In-Laws Helen Hersh (Elmer) Franklin, Lucille
Hersh Johnson, and Florence Hersh Schoener.
 
She is survived by her children: Lisa A Hersh, Portland, OR, John M Hersh, (Linda), Topeka, George M Hersh II, (Marcia), Olathe, Brian C Hersh, (Lonna) Topeka,  grandchildren Jessica Dercher, (Tom), Ashley Tomes, (Janson), Jamie Murray, (Andrew), Mark Hersh,(Jaclyn) Allison Offield, (Daniel), Melissa Hersh, Whitney Hersh, Katelyn Hersh, Emily Hersh, Shelby Hersh. Great Grandchildren Zachary and Brody Dercher, Weston, Grant and Baker Mae Tomes, Clara, and Quinn Murray. Seven Nieces and Seven Nephews.
 
At her request, services will be private. Celebration of Life gathering will be held at The Foundry Event Center 400 SW 33 rd St Topeka, KS 66614 on November 10, 2019 from 4-6 pm for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Topeka High School Historical Society, 800 SW 10th St, Topeka, KS 66612, Midland Hospice Care in Topeka or to the charity of your choice.
