MARCH 28, 1948 – JANUARY 3, 2026
Dennis Eugene Dickens, age 77, passed away on January 3, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on March 28, 1948, in Dayton, Ohio, to Robert and Carol Dickens (Shartle).
Dennis grew up in Santa Paula, California, where he discovered his love of surfing and playing music with friends. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as an infantry combat engineer during the Vietnam War. Dennis later settled in Topeka, Kansas, where he met the love of his life and wife of 42 years, Paris Dickens (Janeski).
Alongside his childhood friend, Gary Sutterfield, Dennis was the co-owner of D&G Construction and Artistic Design sign shop before concluding his career with Blue Cross Blue Shield.
He is survived by his wife, Paris Dickens (Janeski); their daughter, Shelby Dickens; their
granddaughter, Cierra Tarpley; his nephew and nieces: Nick Janeski (Brandy), Jana Mott (Bret), Rosa Janeski (Johnny), and Jessica Meyers (Nic); sisters Lisa and Linda; as well as many beloved extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Dickens Jr.; and his brother-in-law, Robert Janeski II.
Above all, Dennis’s greatest joy in life was being with his family, animals, and close friends. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, incredible stories, musical talent, and his
willingness to offer advice or lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Dennis will be deeply
missed by all who knew him, and his legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no formal service. Memorial contributions may be made directly to Helping Hands Humane Society.
