August 7, 1950 – January 29, 2026
Edwin Neal Amick, age 75, died January 29, 2026, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
Neal was born August 7, 1950, the son of Glen and Phyllis Amick. He spent his childhood in Independence, Kansas, where he graduated from Independence High School in 1968. He continued his education at Independence Community College, Class of 1970, and later graduated from Kansas State College of Pittsburg in 1972, earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.
Neal married Patricia Ann Seims after college, spending their days together in Las Vegas, Nevada, and then Port Orchard, Washington. Neal most recently lived in Fall River, Kansas.
Neal had a strong interest in science and the environment, which led him to work on environmental cleanup projects, including the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska and the Columbia Space Shuttle recovery efforts in Texas—work he was very proud of. Neal enjoyed music, traveling, and his hometown’s annual Neewollah celebration.
Neal was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Amick, and his parents, Glen and Phyllis Amick. Neal and Pat will be laid to rest together at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas, on July 1, 2026. There will be a graveside service and celebration of life at The Stich Shelter House.
He is survived by his brother, Stanley Amick of rural Kansas; nephews Walter Amick of San Diego, California, with spouse Chevonne and daughters Emma and Clara, and Winston Amick of Alma, Kansas, with spouse Abby Amick and children Lauren, Madelyn, and Dalton.
I only knew Neal for approximately three years. The last three years of his life. I found him to be curious, eclectic, kind, and highly intellectual. Especially in the sciences. I'm going to miss our friendship.
