Elizabeth Barbara [Ziegler] Keegan passed peacefully on Sunday, August 11, 2019, with several of her children at her side.

She was born on December 20, 1921 in Kansas City, Missouri to Joseph

and Dorothea [Bauer] Ziegler as the youngest of five siblings. Elizabeth graduated from Kansas
City Missouri’s Northeast High School and worked in her parent’s variety store. Elizabeth was an
avid crocheter and loved making craft gifts for everyone she knew. She was a generous, giving
spirit who quickly and selflessly helped anyone.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant grandson, S. Holmes, and her
siblings: Joseph (Eilsen) Ziegler, Magdalena (Roy) Morris, Johanna (Robert) Boyle, and Christian
(Josie) Ziegler.
She is survived by her children: Bill (Sharon) Keegan, Topeka, KS; Kathleen (Gene) Mueller,
Yakima, WA; Steve (MaryAnn Estes) Keegan, Overland Park, KS; Linda Kinder, San Antonio, TX;
Dennis (Rhonda) Keegan, Overland Park, KS; Cindy (Rodney) Tibbits, Topeka, KS; Juliana (Scott)
Holmes, Wichita, KS; Nancy (Loren) Kriegel, Topeka KS, and many grandchildren, great-
grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her beloved dog Munchkin.
She is also survived by Margaret and James Hastings and Mr. Maurice Brown. The Hastings family
came into Elizabeth’s life after their home was destroyed in 1966 and remained very close friends
throughout her life. Mr. Brown and Elizabeth were high school sweethearts and reconnected late in
life to enjoy each other’s company, playing cards and having lively conversations.
Elizabeth married Thomas Joseph Keegan in 1940 and moved with him to San Diego for his job
with Consolidated Aircraft, and there they welcomed their first child. They returned to Kansas City
a year later and Elizabeth managed her now two kids and the house while Tom served in the
Philippines during WWII. After his return they managed a variety store in Kansas City for several
years before moving to Topeka where they owned and operated several businesses and raised the
rest of their growing family. After thirty-five years they divorced, at which time Elizabeth went to
work at Jostens Yearbook Co. and Kmart. She retired from Jostens in 1990 with a celebration
among the many friends she made during her working career. 
She was a member of the Topeka Holy Name Parish until 1975 when she joined St. Matthew’s
Catholic Church and remained a member until her death.
Visitation will be Monday, August 19 th , 10:00-11:00 a.m. with the funeral service following at
11:00 a.m., at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 2700 E. Virginia, Topeka Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, Elizabeth requested donations to the St. Matthew’s Church for the Prayer Blanket
Sewing Group who provide small blankets, visits, and prayers to members during their time of
