James (Jim) G. Newins
September 09, 1938 - September 28, 2026
James (Jim) G. Newins, Sr., 88, passed away on September 28, 2026 at a Topeka nursing home. Jim was born in 1938 in Chicago, IL to Harvey and Catherine Newins. Jim worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a Special Agent in the Railroad Police Department. He was later relocated to Topeka, KS to continue his work with Santa Fe. Jim also worked for the Super Chief Credit Union following his retirement from Santa Fe.
Jim was a member of the Topeka Model Railroad Club. He enjoyed creating an extensive model railroad layout in his basement.
Jim married Margaret Kelly in May of 1960. She survives, they divorced in 1987. They were blessed by two children, James (Lora) Newins and Mary Newins. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Kelli (Mike) Gwaltney and Ray (Caitlin) Newins and two great grandchildren Theo and Brooks. Jim later married Donita (Donnie) Armstrong. She passed away in 2017 after a lengthy illness.
Private Inurnment will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
