John Leroy Shepard

March 21, 1947 - November 18, 2023

John Leroy Shepard of Carbondale, KS took his final ride into the sunset November 18th, 2023, at the age of 76.

John was born March 21st, 1947, to LeRoy (Shep) and Eula (Coffman) Shepard. John spent most of his life in the Overbrook and Carbondale area.

John graduated from Overbrook Rural High School and Emporia State College. After graduation, he proudly served his country with the U.S. Army Reserves. John worked many years at Shep’s Enterprise and Collins Industries. He also worked at Wolf Creek Energy Plant and then worked in sheet metal, retiring from the Sheet Metal Local Union #2.

John spent many years on the ball field playing slow pitch for Roy’s Boys and Rappard’s Insurance. He was an avid coon hunter with his Dad and over the years he owned many mules for leisure, competition, and hunting. John was a member of the Midwest Mule Club for many years, and his children learned to ride mules at an early age. John was also a valued member of the Masonic Lodge for over 20 years.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Shep and Eula, both maternal and paternal grandparents, and grandson Corey Shepard II.

Left to cherish his memories are his children, Eustacia, (James) Fager, Topeka, Jennifer (Mark Abbott) Phipps, Delphi Indiana, and Corey (Crystal) Shepard, Topeka.  Josh, (Missy) Barrett, Desoto, KS. 

And his grandchildren Gabriella, Alexandria, Isaiah, Preston, Bailey, Kaleb, Nevaeh, Elisabeth, Austin, Israel, Lacy, and Cody.

Great grandchildren London, Adalynn, Hudson, Guinevere, Ocean, Braxton, Grayson, Dakota, Kayle, and Dale.

He is also survived by his sister, Linda Prockish, several nieces and nephews, cousins, and many lifelong friends.

Per John's wishes he was cremated. A Memorial service will be held January 6^th at 1 PM at Grace Community Church at 310 E 8^th Street, Overbrook, KS, 66524 with burial to follow at the Overbrook Cemetery.
