Larry Gene Gardner

JANUARY 05, 1962 - APRIL 20, 2026

Larry Gene Gardner, 64 of Tecumseh, Kansas, died April 20 at St. Francis hospital in Topeka after complications from open heart surgery.  No funeral services are planned per his request. 

 
He was born on January 5th 1962 in Kansas City, Kansas and graduated from Valley Falls High school in 1980. He married Elena Gardner in 2005. He was talented and resourceful at many occupations from wood working to mechanics. He attended Tecumseh United Methodist Church and was very active in the church, carving toys for children and he was affectionately known as "the candy man." He proudly read his Bible 23 times front to back and embraced the Lord and his religion. 
 
He is survived by his wife Elena Gardner of Tecumseh, his daughter Susan Wessel (Nathaen) of Topeka, granddaughters Harley and Makenzie Wires of Topeka, and step grandchildren Hunter, Rylie and Andrew Wessel. Stepson Kenny Gardner (Shelly) and step grandson Hunter Gardner of Springfield, MO.
He is also survived by two sisters Linda Kerr (Bob) of Baldwin City and Shirley Leach (Dave) of Lawrence. 
 
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Sr. and Shirley Gardner, two brothers Joseph Jr. and Johnny Gardner, and granddaughter Lily Wires.  
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the St. Judes Children's Hospital. Condolences may be sent to the family through Angels Above Cremation.
