Luther Warren “Doc” Dunaway passed Peacefully in his sleep ,with his wife by his side in Topeka, July 20, 2020. He was 88.

Born the son of Luther K. Dunaway and Geneva M Wilmoth on June 20, 1932 in Edna , Ks

1950 LW graduate from Herrington high school. Went on to graduate from Kansas State University with a Degree in veterinary medicine .LW started is career treating large animal , Considering he spent most of his time growing up on the farm.

Wasn’t long before Doc opened up Brookwood animal clinic.and practiced there 23 years .

1951 L W Married Pat Morgan , they had four children together son Steve Dunaway ( Susie) Overland Park daughters terry sheik ( bill) Jan delimont (William )Oregon and Son Philip Who preceded him in death at 9 yrs old. Lw and Pat later divorced

1966 L W married Carolyn sue fink Had two sons Jeff (Tami);Topeka )and Luther Michael, ( deceased), 10 grandchildren Cory ,Kelsey ,Trent Jamie ,Kelly, Patrick ,Thomas ,River Nichole,Marshal and 13 great grand children.

  1. 1989LW started a new journey in life and became a member of AA . He Became the first veterinarian In Kansas To practice house call Veterinary medicine and continued to practice another 14 years. LW also with his love Of people and gift of gab became a blackjack dealer up at Harrahs .. now PBC . Leaving there after a few years he tried his hands as a substitute school teacher. Let’s just say times were different back when he went to school and didn’t quite understand how things were operating Thoughtv it would be best if he went on to something else where he became a tech at Decca renigration facility known as mirriors Where was able to reach out and help Men who Where transitioning from prison to society . Finally Doc finished out his career Working for United States department of agriculture as a veterinary medical officer meat and poultry inspector. Doc retired at 81. Doc was an avid bowler , he bowled With his wife Sue At south west bowl couples league for years As well as men league at Meadow lanes along with tournaments around the country . Doc loved watching golf as much as he enjoyed playing golf. He could be recognized usually by his Signature red golf pants that he wore almost religiously.

You definitely wanted doc in a scramble. The old man did not Miss many putts. after his wife retired if they weren’t on the golf course usually find them at the lake walleye fishing , and they started fishing in walleye tournaments all across Kansas if they weren’t fishing for walleye they enjoyed the weekend at Lake Osage catching channel cat or Pomona catching Crappie. Luke was a Kansas state wildcat Cat backer..As well as an avid Chiefs and royals fan.. Most of all docs passion became helping the suffering alcoholic and his love for Topeka AA was shown thru his 30 years of service and continuous sobriety up until he passed over to the glory land... he was best known for The mantra that was passed to him make it through the day in a way that makes God smile.

Survivors include wife Carolyn Sue Dunaway Topeka Sons Jeff( Tami) ( Topeka)and Steve ( Susie) Overlandpark daughters terry shiek ( Bill)Bern ks Jan delimont (William) coos bay Oregon 10 grandchildren 13 grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents Luther k and Geneva m and two sons Luther Michael 27 Philip 9 Will be a celebration of life Saturday August 8 at Lake Shawnee in shelter House the Garden House. Open to the public bring your best story of doc. Guests are welcome to come at 2:00 for food fellowship joy and laughter as we say goodbye to LW.( Shelter house will be open at noon ) Service will begin at 7 o’clock shelter house closes at 10:30 feel free to stick around.

Temperature ..mask ..gloves .sanitary stations will be provided social distancing will be in affect .. it will be outside With shelter House available if needed
