Robert (Wayne ) Burton of Topeka, Kansas passed away peacefully at the age of 81 early Monday morning, December 18, 2023. Wayne was born in Clinton, Missouri on March 16, 1942 to the late Hugh & Jonah Burton. He was the youngest of 3 children. Both of his brothers, Hugh Jr. and Glenn preceded him in death. Wayne graduated from Clinton High School in 1960. After graduation, he enrolled at Rolla School of Mines and played football there for 2 years. Wayne enlisted in the Army in 1967 shortly after his divorce from Rose Mary Wheatley. He served in the Vietnam War until 1972 as helicopter mechanic. In 1975, Wayne and his then wife, the late Hai Burton and their children moved to Isfahan, Iran and resided there for 4 years before moving back to Independence, Missouri in 1979. Wayne worked for Owens Corning Fiberglass as chief electrician for 20 years. He retired from Owens Corning in 1999. 

Wayne worked hard all his life to provide for his family and ensure his children received a quality education. Wayne loved to cheer on his beloved Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. He was an animal lover and had several dogs in his lifetime. He's particularly fond of the Lhasa Apso breed. His favorite place to visit often with his wife, Jeanneane, was the Black Hills in South Dakota. He will be greatly missed. 

Wayne is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jeanneane Burton; stepchildren, Darin Watson (Michelle), and Nikki Fitzgibbon (Joey); children, Loan Lieu, Long Lieu (Nga), Robert Wayne Burton, Jr., Kim Cleveland, Ha Burton (Joyce), Sang Burton (Christy) and Kim Burton; 9 grandchildren, Brandon Burton (Allie), Mathew Burton (Alyssa), Kayla Clouston, Kyle Bogar, Haylee Cleveland, Charley Burton, Garrett Burton, Riley Cleveland and Daniel Lieu; 4 step grandchildren DeShawn Watson, Josie Fitzgibbon, Jaxon Fitzgibbon and Emmaline Fitzgibbon; 6 great grandchildren, Jonathan Burton, Elizabeth Burton, Grayson Burton, Connor Burton, Dixie Burton and Brayley Burton and step great-grandson, Everett Stowe. 
 
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 6 at the VFW#1650 located at 3110 SW Huntoon, Topeka @ 1:00 p.m.
