March 21, 1946 - January 03, 2024
William H. Stevens, 77 of Alma, Kansas formerly of Independence, MO passed away peacefully in his home on January 3, 2024. Bill was born in Hannibal, MO where he was raised with his sisters Penny, Susie, Perky and brother Vernon. He attended public schools and spent many summers swimming in the Mississippi River, which is where he became a fantastic swimmer. After school, he joined the workforce and spent his career working for Avon Distribution, Commerce Bank and The Waldinger Corporation, retiring in 2012. In 1988 he met and married Linda Keys Doak. They enjoyed 35 wonderful years together and spent most of their time attending events for their children and grandchildren and loved spending time in antique stores and with family. Bill, or PaPa Bill, will be remembered as a man always available and ready to help anyone in need. He was a great mentor with a listening ear, a calm demeaner and a smile to make everything better. He was no stranger to hard work, always working odd jobs as a young man before entering the workforce and never being without a job. One of his most enjoyable jobs was driving a water truck in Colorado delivering water from the base of a mountain to the top.
Bill was preceded in death by his only son, James in 2008. Also preceding him in death are his mother, Margaret, sister Elizabeth Penny Clark and brother Vernon Salisbury. Survivors include his wife Linda of the home, daughter Jennifer Frank (Jeff), sisters LaVerne Eversmeyer and Susie (Mike) Roberts. Grandchildren Tayler, Kateara, Shelby, Ileigha, Stephen, Alloura, Jackson, Zachary and Cole. Great-grandchildren Brittney, Karter and Kamden. Father and Mother-in-law Harvey and Betty West. Several brothers and sisters in law, cousins and nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at a later date. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to St. Croix Hospice.

We have a new angel in our mist. My "Bud" was a wonderful, caring person and a great brother-in-law. He was always up for a 'road trip' no matter where we wanted to go. So many memories to sort through and relive in my heart and mind. Not only was he a man I looked up to, but he also made sure you knew you were important to him. He listened and talked, without judgement, and never gave an opinion unless you asked for one. Always ready with a hug, smile and a kiss. His family was everything to him starting with Linda. He told me the first time he saw her that he knew he was going to marry her, and he did. He made himself available to our entire family, no matter what was asked of him. From fixing something to helping with a move. He was so many things to so many people it would fill a book. I miss you my "Buddy". Rest now, will see you on the other side of the moon. I love you.
“People you love never die… Not completely. They live in your mind, the way they always lived inside you. You keep their light alive.”
Not even death can break the bond we had. You were the most amazing, caring and loving person.
You will remain in my thoughts and prayers.
May You Rest in Peace.
