Glenda Ruth Thomas Kearse Wake, 71, transitioned Tuesday, March 3, 2020. She was born in Topeka, Kansas on October 15, 1948 to Albert M. Thomas Sr. and Opal E. Eddington Kearse and later adopted by George Kearse.

She was educated in the Topeka public school system where she attended East Topeka Junior High School and graduated from Topeka High School.

After high school she gave birth to a daughter with Horatio Faulkner.

Glenda had a lot of LOVE for music. She had an eloquent singing voice and a gift for articulating words with expressive talking and speaking. This drew her to attend The School of Broadcasting in Kansas City, Missouri. She had also written two books.

Glenda married and divorced E6 Staff Sergeant Robert G. Wake, Sr. To this union another daughter was born.

She had a passion for COOKING and worked in food service at the Topeka State Hospital for several years and with worked with her younger brother in his restaurant. She also worked as a being a club manager, a bartender, and a retail clothing store department manager. She participated as a Grandma in the foster grandparent program at KNI where she received the
President’s Gold lifetime volunteer service award.

One of her hobbies was SEWING and making her own clothing which lead her to open and operate her own clothing store. She enjoyed working with her hands making ceramics and wood burning art.

Glenda accepted Christ as her Lord and savior at an early age and attended the Church of Living God. God restored her back to Him under the leadership of Pastor Anthony Divers at Inward Faith Outreach Ministries. She was a dedicated Christian who was faithful to God and her IFOM church family. Glenda attended Faith Bible College and earned an Associate degree. She applied and received her license and became an ordained minister to preach the gospel. She was very active and involved in various roles and church ministries. Minister Glenda was a teacher that taught Menninger Bible classes. She was also a Sunday School teacher for the youth and the Sunday school secretary. She was the Director of the food bank and mass food giveaway through Harvesters and she assisted with the clothing bank. She was also in charge of the summer lunch program. Minister Glenda was on a ministry mission to feed and serve the community helping those in need. Minister Glenda Wake was passionate about loving God and committed to trying to do His Works and His Will daily. She was a devout Bible scholar and Prayer Warrior. She had a giving and caring heart for everyone. She was the best conversationalist and prayer partner anyone could ever wish for. She was definitely the one to call when you wanted to talk and needed someone to listen.

She was preceded in death by her mother Opal E. Eddington Kearse, fathers; Albert M. Thomas Sr. and George A. Kearse, brothers; Joe Thomas and Albert M. Thomas Jr., sister Patricia Thomas, granddaughter Takayla Thomas, grandson Tre’Mel Dean Rayton and her daughter’s fiancé Tyran Burton.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory: two daughters , Aireka Thomas of Kansas City, KS and Roberta Wake of Topeka, KS; three granddaughters Ieshia Thomas of Kansas City, MO, Ty’Lisa Rayton-Walker (Xavier) of Topeka, KS, and Tyeshia Rayton of Topeka, KS; three grandsons T’Juan Dean, Devonte Thomas of Kansas City, KS and Tyrone Rayton of Topeka, KS; 6 great-granddaughters and 6 great-grandsons, brothers; Macio (Bo) Thomas of Denver, CO, Duane P. Kearse Sr. (Janette) of Clearwater, FL and George Kearse (Sharon) of Topeka, KS, sisters; Carolyn Kearse and Latricia A. Kearse both of Topeka, KS, Liz Thomas, Vanita (Bonnie) Thomas Kemp of CA, Teresa Thomas, and Sister in Law Dorothy Lee, two generations of many nieces and nephews, a lot of cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
