James W. Glynn

James W. Glynn

APRIL 05, 1932 - JANUARY 24, 2026

James W. Glynn, of Axtell, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 24 th , 2026 at Crestview Nursing Home in Seneca Kansas.

Jim was born in Sabetha Hospital on April 5, 1932, the son of William and Kathryn (Kate) Glynn. He grew up on his parent’s farm with his sister, Eleanor, who preceded him in death, along with her husband, Leo (Toots) in 2005.

Jim went to country school across the road for three years, then attended school in Baileyville, graduating from high school in 1950. After graduation, he helped on the
family farm. He married Judy Tangeman on October 28, 1961. They remained on the farm during his active lifetime. Later in life, the couple spent winters in Harlingen Texas.
He suffered from dementia since 2021. After care at home, he received loving care as a resident at Crestview Nursing Home the last 2 years of his life.

Although he loved farming, his health required him to change occupations. He measured ground for the ASC Office, became a real estate agent, then an insurance agent for Mutual of Omaha. This was his profession for twenty years, until his health again required his retirement in 1991.

Jim was a member of St. Michael’s church, and served early in his life as a choir member for 20 years. He and his wife, Judy were a team couple for Marriage Encounter, giving several presentations for the weekends during their 6 years of service.

His love of the earth found an outlet in gardening and he loved riding in the combine at harvest time with Larry Ronnebaum and his sons. Family pictures show the crops of beans, the largest sweet potato, and abundant asparagus. He loved sharing the fruits of his labor. Always ready with that Irish wink and a good joke, making other people laugh was a special gift. He was a great "storyteller", and enjoyed each story, no matter how many times he told it! Even with dementia at Crestview, he was still able to make the staff laugh.

He was also a “quiet” servant. Avoiding the public organizations, he would bring gifts of food to people in the community, especially widows, or visit people who had trouble, like those who were sick, in nursing homes or in jail. He carried his cross of chronic pain with quiet courage and determination not to give in to his disability.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Judy, three children, Mike Glynn (Laura Mryyan) of Topeka, Laurie (Tom Seel), their children, Kristina, Dan, Jessica, and their children, Deb (Dan) Kelly of Axtell, sons, Ryan and Nevan (Elizabeth.)

The Wake Service was held on Thursday January 29 th at St. Michael's Church, Axtell. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Rev Jim Shaughnessy on January 30, 2026. Memorial Contributions can be made to “Feed The Children” in Jim’s name. Internment of his ashes will be at St. Bridget’s Cemetery near Axtell, Kansas at a later
date.
