Mary Ann (Clopton) Turner, age 78, of Emporia, KS, passed away March 17, 2022 at her home. She was born in Emporia on August 10, 1943 to Jay and Mildred (Lamoureux) Clopton. She was a graduate of Emporia High School class of 1961.

She married Bill Estes in 1961 and together they shared two sons. They later divorced. She married Bob Turner in 1977 and they were later divorced. She lived in several places including Emporia, Oklahoma and Tucson, AZ. She held various jobs throughout her life and at one time owned and operated a drive-in restaurant and a tanning salon. Mary retired in 2009 and moved back to Emporia to live near her family.

Mary never met a stranger and was always quick to strike up a conversation. Visiting with family and friends was a favorite pastime of hers and she was a wonderful listener. Her personality could be described as bright, fun and bubbly, some might even have called her ornery. She enjoyed painting, yard work, fishing, going barefoot and picking and eating fresh tomatoes from the vine.

Mary was an animal lover and had many cherished pets throughout her lifetime.

Donald (Don) Ray Mulanax “Paso”, age 64, Emmett, Kansas died peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, March 5, 2022. He was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer 6 months prior. He was born August 24, 1957, in Topeka, KS, to Irvan Mulanax and Regina Hanrahan Safarik. He grew up in Topeka, Delia, and St. Mary’s communities and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1975. He is a member of the Citizen Band Potawatomi Tribe and was very proud of his Native heritage. 
 
Don worked at St Mary’s Lumber for many years, was the Emmett City Manager before he made his dream a reality as the owner/operator of Dry Creekbed Saloon in Emmett in 2013. 
 
Don loved live music, playing different instruments, and hailed as the greatest prankster. He loved showing off new gadgets “junk” he got at garage sales or off a clearance rack. He was a loyal friend, loving husband, father and Papa. His favorite role was being Papa to all his grandchildren who adored him. 
 
Don married Connie Sue Keller Jeanneret on December 17, 1983. With this union, he gained toddler twins, a son John and daughter Erin, who he loved as his own. A son Levi was born in 1985. Connie preceded him in death in 2012, and Levi preceded him in death in 2017. 
 
Don married Mandy Babb on January 1, 2017. She survives at the home.  He gained two more children and more grandchildren who he loved unconditionally.

Steve Baker passed away February 25th, 2022, Age 67

Steven Michael Baker was born January 14, 1955, in Eau Clair, Wisconsin, to Lyle and Millie (Mildred) Baker. Steve graduated high school from Fort Dodge Senior high, in Fort Dodge, IA.

After high school Steve became an independent millwright. He worked for a variety of companies and traveled thought out the United States with his career. Steve made Topeka, KS his hometown later in life. Where he helped care his parents. Besides being an avid reader and his love for horses. Steve also enjoyed word working, crossword puzzles, football and Jeopardy. Steve was also a lifetime fan of the Minnesota Vikings and the Twins.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents. Lyle and Millie (Mildred) Baker.

Steve is survived by his daughter Kari (Scott) Janssen, grand children Claira and Christopher. Sisters Kris (Bob) Palmer, Karin Baker, nephew CJ (Sarah) Wilson, Erin (Kevin) Kerley, Noece Kaite Baker, Jill (Jordan) Ollis. Great nieces and nephews, Kylie & Maxwell Wilson, Kenadie and Maci Kerley.

George M. Melby, 77, passed away on March 10, 2022.
 
George grew up in North Dakota and his life journey led him down many paths. At different times he was a music teacher, a pastor, a singer, a piano player and an election worker. He was always ready with a joke or quick reply. His interests included becoming a pilot, advocating for immigration rights, promoting LGBTQ+ rights, abolishing capital punishment, and supporting the Poor People’s Campaign.
 
He had a love of plants and could grow anything. In the final years of his life, he found a home at Rainbow Mennonite Church in Kansas City, Kansas, where he was active in the choir and the playground committee.
 
George is survived by his loving partner Ario.
 
Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held at a later date.

Todd E. Treinen, 58, Topeka, passed away at St. Francis Hospital on Wednesday, March 9, 2022.

He was born August 13, 1963 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Thomas Eugene (Gene) and Mary (Bloomquist) Treinen. He graduated from Osage City High School in 1981. 

Todd married Lori Stover on August 22, 2008 in Topeka, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include parents Gene and Mary Treinen, Osage City, KS, two daughters Megan Treinen, Overland Park, KS and Lacey Treinen, Topeka, KS; granddaughter Oliva Mason and a son Tanner (Courtney) Treinen, Osage, KS; two grandchildren, Houston and Clara Treinen. Two step-children, Travis Stover, Topeka, KS and Hayley Stover, Topeka, KS; two grandsons Bentley Shipley and Sloan Shipley.

Todd has four surviving siblings, three brothers, Timothy (Gete) Treinen, Walla Walla, WA, Thomas Treinen, Rogers, AR, Troy (Angie) Treinen, Lyndon, KS and a sister Karman Curtis, Blue Springs, MO.

Three surviving nephews, Zachary Treinen, Blake Treinen (Kati) and Hunter Treinen. One Great Nephew Krue Treinen and Great Niece Addison Treinen.  

Todd was self-employed. He built two business from the ground up, Kansas Senior Benefits and Viptextdeals.  Outside of work Todd enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and refurbishing wrought iron furniture. Todd enjoyed traveling to many areas around the world; Mexico, Caribbeans, Nicaragua, Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Alaska and Hawaii.

Funeral mass will be held at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church 6th & Lord in Osage City on Tuesday, March 15, 2022. Rosary starts at 10:30 AM with funeral mass at 11:00 AM.

Gerald (Jerry) Curtis, 76, passed away in the quiet of his home February 25, 2022.  He was surrounded by his family as he entered the arms of Jesus. 
 
He is survived by his wife Suzanne (Mickie), his two daughters, Kimberly Wiesinger and Shelby Kibbe (Craig), five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
 
He retired from Goodyear in 2000.  He joined the Kansas Army National Guard in 1961 and retired in June 1985.  He served in Vietnam and then flew crane helicopters for the Guard until his retirement as a Major.  After his retirement he enjoyed his family and grandchildren.  He also enjoyed carpentry, traveling, and spending time with his pals at McDonald's. 
 
A celebration of life will be held April 2, 2022 at 2pm at the Kansas National Guard Museum.

Robert DeHart Howard, 72, passed away February 4th, 2022 at Via Christi Hospice in Manhattan, Kansas.  

Robert was born on December 11th, 1949 in Wichita, Kansas. He was a graduate of KU and served 2 years in the U.S. Army.
 
His civilian career was in the movie theater business and he was the manager at the Seth Child Multi-Plex theater at the time of his retirement.
 
Robert is survived by his sister, Judy Pfender, of Bellevue, Nebraska and 3 nieces; Teresa Bayouth, Sandi Bayouth, and Stephanie Dick, all of Wichita, Kansas.

Tecumseh - Tracy Lynn Johnson passed away February 21,2022 at his home.
 
Tracy was born on April 27,1964 to John Albert Johnson and Dona Lee Streeter. He was born and raised in Berryton, KS. He attended Shawnee Heights.
He worked various jobs, but his favorite was working with Dr, Tucker (Vet) as her Maintenace man. There was anything he couldn't make or fix,
He loved the outdoors, his horses and dogs.  He loved fishing especially with his two Great Nephews Craig and Jacob.
Tracy is proceeded in death by his Parents, John and Dona Johnson, two brothers, Fred and Craig and two Sisters Tink and Kelly and Great Niece Rayven.
He is survived by his children Christopher Johnson and Traci Watrous, 5 siblings, RoxAnne (Dan) Urban, Dawna King, Ricky Johnson, Ej Yewell and Nancy (Elton) Hess and many nieces and nephews.
Tracy wanted me to let everyone know that he loves you all and he will be watching over you
Celebration will be later in Spring.

Martha Norman 97 of Oskaloosa passed away peacefully at home on February 19, 2022. She was born on February 3, 1925, in Oskaloosa, Kansas. The daughter of Ezra and Lula (Stout) Church. She was the eighth of ten children.

Martha was a member of the Oskaloosa United Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary post 36. She worked at many local retail stores and did volunteer work.

She was married to John A. Norman on November 10, 1946, in Kansas City, Kansas. They farmed and raised three children. Survivors are Mary Helmick, Baltimore, MD, and twin sons John Norman (Suzanne), Gene Norman (Charlene), seven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Celebration of life services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 26 at Oskaloosa United Methodist Church, with a private family burial later. Casual dress. Memorials suggested to Friends of Hospice Jefferson County.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2022, at the Oskaloosa City Hall.  

 
 

Timothy (Tim) Lee Keck

Timothy Lee Keck (Tim), 63, of Topeka, KS passed away February 18, 2022 at Stormont Vail hospital due to COVID complications.

Tim was born December 29, 1958 to William (Bill) Keck and Marlene Keck in Topeka, KS. Tim grew up in Auburn, KS. He attended school there and went on to become a correctional officer at Lansing Correctional facility in Lansing, KS. He then had a long stent in the automobile business in multiple capacities. Most recently, he worked for the I-70 Auto Auction.  Tim will be remembered for his love for his children, pets, cars and NASCAR racing.

Tim is proceeded in death by his father Bill Keck and youngest daughter Ashley Gonzalez. He survived by his longtime girlfriend Cheryl Griffiths, his daughter Kirsten Gigger (Steven), granddaughters, Karma Gonzalez and Serenity Gonzalez, his mother, Marlene Keck, older brother, Lynn Keck (Barbara), his nephew, Steven Keck and niece, Andrea Keck. He was loved by many other family and friends.

Graveside services will be held at the Auburn Cemetery on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 1pm. There will be a small gathering for family following this service.
