January 31, 1937 - November 04, 2020

Ronald “Ron” Eugene Morgan, Sr was born January 31, 1937 and passed on November 4, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents were Charles “Charlie” Morgan and Mary Bessie Morgan (Provolt) and two brothers: Charles “Chuck” Morgan and Frank Morgan. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Philime “Phil” Morgan. Ron married Nathaleen Vorhies in April, 1962 and had three children, Ronald E. Morgan, Jr; Michelle Morgan (Rouse); and Rebecca “Becky” Morgan (Hanika). Ron married Philime “Phil” Carathers on May 24, 1972 taking her two children, Deborah “Deb” Good (Carathers) and Marc Carathers, as his own to raise. Ron and Phil built a home on Carlson Road in 1974 and both remained on the home property until their passings. He is survived by all five children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

August 04, 1931 - November 05, 2020

Manual M. Magallanes, 89, left us on November 5, 2020, with his family by his side in Topeka, Ks.

Manual was born on August 4, 1931 to Cruz and Maria del Socorro Magallanes.  He spent most of his life in Emporia, Ks. where he met Dora at a local church.  They were married for 39 years. He retired as a meat slaughter at IBP/Tyson in Emporia, Ks.

Mr. Magallanes is survived by his wife, Dora Elia; 4 sons, Rual, Cruz (deceased), Roberto, and Solomon;  2 daughters and their spouses, William and Rosamaria Edwards, Corey and Rebecca Sparkman; and 6 grandchildren, Mikayla, Brannaugh, Aaedyn, Aria, Scarlett, and Katalina.

His interests included family, gardening, reading, watching baseball and boxing.  He devoted much of his time taking care of and being care for by his wife. He always loved to see his family especially his grandchildren. 

Manual was a devoted father, husband, brother, son, and friend. He loved to share his stories to anyone who would  listen. He will forever be in our hearts. The heavens gained
an angel and the dark nights gained a bright star.

June 12, 1947 - October 12, 2020

Marilyn Sue Atchison-Roberts, 73 of Burlingame, KS gained her angel wings on October 12, 2020 at her home. She was born June 12, 1947 in Osage City KS. The daughter of Charles E. Atchison and Ila Geraldine Mundy-Atchison. She grew up in the Burlingame community and attended Burlingame schools. Furthered her education into the nursing field for over 30 years. Starting her career at the opening of the Burlingame Nursing Home in 1972, onto Rolling Hills and ending her career at Lexington Park Assisted Living. She Married Kenneth Eugene Roberts on June 10, 1966 in Scranton, KS he survives. Other survivers include, four children two sons, Glen(Belinda) Roberts and David Roberts both of Topeka, KS, and two daughters, Lori Roberts of Topeka, KS and Sherry(Brian) Hall of Berryton, KS, 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a sister Sherry(Bill) Roberts of Osage City, 2 brothers Tug(Darlene) Atchison Jr and Dean Atchison both of Burlingame, KS, and numerous neices and nephews. 

December 17, 1964 - November 02, 2020

Daniel Wade Vertner died November 2, 2020 at a Topeka hospital. Dan was born December 17, 1964 in Salina Kansas, son of Ralph and Norma Vertner. He is survived by his sister Susan Ashburn of Lawrence, Pam Purdum of Emporia, nephew Nick Ashburn of Philadelphia, great nephew Benjamin Ashburn-Kellerman of Philadelphia and his beloved dog Baby.

Dan graduated Emporia High School. Dan knew no stranger. He loved talking to people and was loved by all who knew him. Dan had many hurdles in life from a life altering accident when he was a child. Dan was always positive and never complained. He was an avid sports fanatic. He loved his Jayhawks, Royals and Chiefs.

October 22, 1938 - October 26, 2020

Carol Louise Lyle of Ulysses, Kansas was accepted into God’s loving arms on October 26, 2020. She had just celebrated her 82nd birthday while residing at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas.

Carol was the 4th daughter of Leslie and Opal (Strode) Walker of Weskan, Kansas. She was born on October 22, 1938 on the family farm north of Ulysses. She graduated from Weskan High School in 1956 with many lifelong friends. During her senior year in high school, Carol met Ewing Lyle of Ulysses, and after attending 1 year at Fort Hays State University, they married on June 16, 1957. Their married life together began with a move to Bonners Ferry, Idaho where they also started their family. Penny Jo, Daniel Dean, and Kevin Keith were born there. In November of 1960, Carol and Ewing with the 3 kids in tow, moved to the family farm in Ulysses where their family continued to grow with the birth of Lyn Leslie and Joan Louise. The family farm  grew and developed with many innovative ideas, eventually leading to the creation of Sky Copters, a helicopter service. This venture took Carol on a different path in life as she earned her CDL and learned the art of mixing and filling the helicopter flown by Dan. After the end of her marriage to Ewing, Carol and Dan traveled to many different places and met many people who fondly referred to her as “Mom”. Carol’s sense of humor, humbleness and caring personality touched many lives from around the world. Carol loved to attend church at the First Baptist Church in Ulysses celebrating the love of God with her fellow church members, and where she was a longtime member. Carol held her family very close to her heart. She loved having family gatherings at the family farm.  Yet another love of Carol´s was cooking, and she was well known and appreciated for her chicken noodle soup, peanut clusters, and cinnamon rolls that she was more than willing to share with anyone that needed a little special attention. Quilting was a hobby she found time for later in life, and finished her last quilt a few days before her passing. 

November 14, 1964 - October 09, 2020

David Chris Dammann, son of James and Wanita (Wendland) Dammann was born November 14, 1964 in Wichita, KS. He passed away peacefully on October 9, 2020 in Topeka, KS at Midland Care Hospice two days after a massive stroke.  He attended Topeka Lutheran School and graduated from Topeka West High School in 1983. He studied auto mechanics at VOTECH and worked as a mechanic and in auto body repair. He was a kitchen manager at the local Golden Corral for several years.

He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his mother, Wanita Dammann, brother Daryl (Cynthia) Dammann, sister Wanda (Mike) Droge, nieces Amy Humbert and Nicole Schwartz and nephews Matt Dammann and Brandon Droge.

His greatest enjoyment was watching NASCAR and hanging out with friends at Jeremiah Bullfrogs talking about classic cars.

Janice Kay (Larson) (Craig) Travis passed away peacefully on October 6, 2020 surrounded by family. She was born on October 16, 1941 in Concordia to Albert “A.J.” and Maxine (Laflen) Larson.

She was raised in the Concordia area. She had a child when she was young, Laura Faye. She then married Robert “Bob” Craig in Salina and from this union they were blessed with three children, Rance Arthur, Glenda Sue and Sharyl Lynn. Later in life she married Donald “Don” Travis.
